Weight Loss Before Cosmetic Surgery

It is best for any patient to be as healthy as they could be prior to any cosmetic surgery. For many patients this means being at an ideal or at least a healthy body weight and having a healthy body composition. This is especially true of cosmetic surgery for the following reasons:

– with a few notable exceptions*, surgeons can optimize your results when you have less excess fat.

– being a healthy weight decreases the risk of complications during your surgery

– procedures such as tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) have overall better results when the patient has fewer pounds of fat in the abdominal area

– cosmetic procedures to appear leaner are often riskier to your health than weight loss through diet, exercise and lifestyle interventions

Speak to your plastic surgeon about whether weight loss is recommended prior to your cosmetic procedure. If so, contact us for an initial consultation.
